Detroit, What!

Big Sean has finally hit his stride. This last year has been great for him. His debut album dropped, several of his singles were in rotation on the radio, he dropped some great guest verses (Burn), and he capped it all off with his best music yet. I remember when I first saw him in concert back in 2009 and I can say that he is consistently getting better.  Sean convincingly proves that he should be on your radar if he isn't yet.
The tape starts with "Higher" which is arguably Sean's best lyrical performance on the mixtape. He raps about how things have changed and how he got to where he is today. He makes a great Superman metaphor that he ends by saying he's "searching for some bad Lois Lanes that he can't name." Big Sean's humor is a part of his appeal and it's in full effect. "24k of Gold" features J.Cole and it's great feature and sports a hook that you will find yourself singing along to. "How it Feel" features a return of his signature flow and features a nice sample. One of my favorite tracks is "Mula". Featuring a MMGesque beat and French Montana this is a hype track. I hope this track gets some radio play. The next major track is "100".  Sean, Royce, and Kendrick tell us the 100 things they want to before they die. Sean proves that he can hang with some of the heavy hitters in the rap game. I won't even address what Kendrick says about voting at this time."Selling Dreams" ft Chris Brown is another solid song. "I'm gonna be" is another one of my favorite tracks. Jhene Aiko's voice is just perfect. Finally, the bonus track is another great song. Featuring Wale, it's one of the funnier tracks on the album.
At 24 Big Sean has accomplished what most rappers would hope to achieve in their whole careers. Detroit is Sean's step up to big boys of the rap game. He's not that guys that just makes funny raps and employs the "hashtag flow".  He's rapping on the level of Ye and Jay like he did on clique. I'll be patiently waiting for his next studio release.
