"Pabst & Jazz"

Asher Roth's third mixtape "Pabst & Jazz" dropped today and it is a must listen. The first thing that hits you after listening is the production; the instrumentals are too sick. The Big L sample contained in "Bastermating" is simply nasty. The production on "Insurance" and "Golden Midas" are standouts too. Hopefully production of this quality will be indicative of his releases under the Def Jam label.

Roth ecaspes his too cool for school flow at times, most notably on "Choices" feating Action Bronson. It's a tough sounding track and Roth shows he knows how to adjust his flow. I really love Asher's honesty. On "In the Kitchen" he spits " me and Chuck we made this in the kitchen, I not bullshittin, really made this in the kitchen."

Roth spits heat on "Bastermating," his flow simply wont be stopped on the track. The internal rhymes that he spits on this track really show off his skill. As a side note, The ASAP Twelvy feature is sick.  "Hard times" is another solid track with a feature from Casey Veggies.

My one complaint about the mixtape is that it has too many features. All the features are solid, but it leaves one wanting to hear more for Asher. However he does shine on the solo track such as "Common Knowledge". This is mixtape is definitely one the best released this year. This might be the best production I've heard all year besides Section 80. If Mr. Roth wasn't on your radar before he should be after this release. Listen to selected tracks below.
